Most customers who choose concrete over other products tend to be looking for an
alternative to the polish of stone, the coolness of plastic products,
and the grout lines of repeated ceramic tiles. Concrete can provide a
stone like warmth, an aged and natural look suitable to a broad range
of kitchen and bath designs.
Can you use Concrete Countertops as cutting boards? What
about stains?
Cutting directly on concrete will leave marks and is not
recommended.
Our concrete counters are sealed with a lacquer sealer for
optimal stain protection and water resistance. Any non-abrasive
cleanser is suitable for cleaning concrete counters. Coming soon
- complete concrete countertop care!
Stains can be removed by sanding with a 100 grit sand paper and
then reapplying sealer and wax.
Time and daily usage produce a unique surface patina that enhances
the character of counters. Concrete is apt to crack. If hairline
cracks occur, they do not affect the structural integrity of the
concrete. Although it can be patched, cracking is considered part of
the look of concrete counters.
Soapstone is a perfect choice for
countertops, backsplashes, sinks with drain boards, and islands.
Its’ durable and quite dense surface possesses all the beauty of
granite or marble, with none of the drawbacks. Soapstone is
inert. This means that acids and alkalis won’t etch soapstone as
they will other stone surfaces. It is also impervious to
temperature changes. Soapstone is available in exceptionally
long and wide slab sizes, and standard, easier to handle 30"
wide slabs. Soapstone seams can be made tight, smooth and
inconspicuous. Soapstone may also be cut to size on the job site
or in the shop with conventional wood and masonry cutting and
finishing tools.
What about care, and scratches?
Taking care of soapstone is a breeze. We recommend applying a
protective coat of mineral oil to all sinks and countertops upon
installation. Mineral oil enhances the inherent natural veining
characteristics and crystallization detail of the stone. If your
soapstone becomes scratched, sometimes just applying mineral oil
will correct it, otherwise sanding and oiling will fix the
scratch.
